Root Beer HQ was founded on March 1st, 2025 by root beer enthusiast, Alex Pritchett.

     

According to Root Beer World, there have been over 3,100 distinct brands of root beer around the globe since the late 1800’s. Yet, there is no dedicated space to help soda fanatics locate these brands, track their ratings, or share reviews. In the summer of 2024, Alex began to sketch ideas for an app. His goal was to create a single space where those who love root beer can locate, log, rate, review, and discuss various brands of root beer, primarily across the United States.

 

In February 2025, Alex began work on a basic website after gaining interest from Reddit’s r/RootBeer forum and compiling research to a database of over 1,000 locations and more than 500 distinct brands. In April, Alex was accepted into the Builders & Backers Spring 2025 Cohort, an idea accelerator program focusing on educating founders about building a great startup and providing startup funds. This was where Root Beer HQ would be taken to the next level. Development on a web and mobile application began in June, and Root Beer HQ officially launched on July 25th, 2025!

 

In its first month, Root Beer HQ had more than 450 app installs and 200 location submissions, surpassing 1,200 locations and 600 brands on the database.

In December, 2025, Alex and his wife bought their first home, and in January, Alex made a career change to pursue his passion in Event Planning. With less time to work on the project, and with a lack of funding and development progress, Alex made the difficult decision to shut down the Root Beer HQ mobile app in July of 2026. By it's one year anniversary that month, Root Beer HQ had more than 675 brands, 1,300 locations, and 583 users.
