What is Root Beer HQ?

A Brief History:

 

     Root Beer HQ was founded on March 1st, 2025 by root beer enthusiast, Alex Pritchett.

     According to Root Beer World, there are over 3,100 distinct brands of root beer around the world. While companies like Untappd and Sodafry exist, root beer seems to ride the line between the two, with neither claiming it as their own. Meanwhile, if you find yourself on r/RootBeer, you will find that most fans share their frustrations with this, primarily using methods such as Excel/Sheets, their phone's notes app, or simply the comments section under each photo in their phone's album to rate the various brands they've tried in their life. These methods are inefficient, and fail to promote conversation to the fullest extent.

 

     This is where Root Beer HQ comes in. ​In the summer of 2024, I began to sketch ideas for an app. My goal was to create a single space where those who love root beer can locate, log, rate, and discuss various brands of root beer, primarily across the United States. In February, 2025, I began work on the humble beginnings of a website. 

 

Phase One: (Feb, 25)

    - Work began on creating a database of locations around the U.S. where root beer can be found. Though I continue my research one city at a time, this is not something I can do alone. This is where a frequent user base comes in. Unlisted locations can be submitted on this site. 

    - On March 1st, 2025, I soft-launched version 0.5 of the site, featuring the database, user profiles, a forum, and more. All with the hope of gaining members in the early days of development.

Phase Two: (April, 25)

​

    - As soon as each state has at least four cities filled out, the site will launch version 1.0

    - Goals for Phase Two include further developing the Community aspects of the site, gaining a wider user base, and continuing research on locations around the United States.

 

Phase Three and Beyond: (TBD)

    - My long term goal for Root Beer HQ is to become the premier location for root beer enthusiasts such as myself to locate, log, rate, and discuss root beer, empowering users to fully track their root beer habits and experiences among a community of like minded individuals. 

    - Future goals include: A standardized format for logs/reviews; the creation of lists; and statistics, bound to each profile and the wider community.
