Can't believe its been two weeks since I finally got the motivation to start working on this site. And progress has been exceptional, and further along than I expected. Today on my lunch break I completed Phase One of my research. Of course, the research will continue...
I have way too many "Variety of Unconfirmed Brand[s]" in the pages that need verifying. I also have way too many "Unknown Brand[s]" in there. I think quite a few of those are a toss up between Barq's and Mug. And I should be able to confirm that by way of the location's preference toward Coke or Pepsi. But I know I've seen plenty locations serve Coke/Pepsi products with a unique root beer available rather than Barq's or Mug. So, more research!
Unfortunately, a lot of these places just don't have menu's online. Some of my listings are simply there because Google Maps had a name, an address, and a review saying "the root beer is great!" It will be great to get submissions in order to fix those listings.
I think the most fun part of the research so far has been realizing I am now a walking root beer encyclopedia. Ask me what brand has Abita bottled, well that's Shake Shack. And which one has IBC? That would be Wahlburgers. It's fun. I hope this site is useful to people. I know it's already an invaluable resource to me.
I think the most frustrating part of the research so far has been trying to find the beverages on the menu's I look at. They're usually at the end, but sometimes they're on a separate drinks menu, and most often they're not on either menu. I think about 50% of menu's just say "root beer." If you know that Barq's is Coke and Mug is Pepsi, you're good to go, but I've also seen restaurants with bottles like IBC or Abita just say "root beer" as well. So that's not helpful. And, of course, I get very hungry looking at menu's for hours at a time, which also isn't helpful.
Anyway. I'm having a lot of fun. I hope to continue development in my free time and I hope to get many more submissions once I launch version 1.0 later this month. It should definitely be March 31st. Maybe even March 24th if I'm able to tackle enough of the Unconfirmed by then!
